Partial discharge (PD) is one of the first indications of a deteriorating insulation system and is the result of localized electrical stress. There are numerous standards that recommend performing PD testing as a method to find issues in an insulation before it compromises the whole system. This leads to the ability to plan outages around those assets seen with critical levels of PD before they result in faults and unscheduled outages.
