Assessing the health of electrical apparatus in substations is crucial for ensuring continuous power delivery to customers. Utilities are increasingly adopting condition-based maintenance over traditional time-based maintenance. This approach is more effective when there is a program in place to identify apparatus in need of maintenance. This presentation will explore the effectiveness of the methods used to detect early warning of deterioration of insulation of a high-volage electrical asset—survey-based, traditional, and PRPD (Phase Resolved Partial Discharge) or PRPS (Phase Resolved Partial Spectrum) analysis.
