For dielectric testing in the field, everyone understands the importance of the power factor measurement, evaluating the results against known limits and trends.  But what about the capacitance measurement?  What significance does it have and what, if anything, can it tell us about the apparatus?  Often overlooked, the capacitance measurement is just as important as the power factor measurement in the evaluation of the apparatus. With proper understanding and analysis, the capacitance measurements are invaluable in increasing one's overall knowledge of transformer construction.  This presentation will review the importance of the capacitance measurements with respect to fault analysis, but then also present ways to use those same measurements to paint a picture of the transformer internals.
