Presented By Josh LaBlanc & Ryan McDaniel - Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc.
This session provides an overview of testing transmission line protection, including relay acceptance testing, relay commissioning testing, relay maintenance testing, and communications-assisted tripping scheme testing. Participants will: •Learn the differences between acceptance, commissioning, and maintenance testing. •Learn where to find and how to use relay tolerance specifications to define pass/fail conditions during relay element testing. •Learn the difference between synthetic test quantities and power system-generated test quantities. •Review synthetic protection element testing fundamentals for 21 elements, including constant voltage, constant current, and constant source tests. •Learn about various 21 element supervisory functions that can create synthetic testing challenges. •Discuss the pros and cons of altering settings or entering a relay test mode to achieve successful tests. •Review end-to-end testing for communications-assisted tripping schemes. Requirements: Each participant should bring a laptop with the latest versions of ACSELERATOR QuickSet® SEL-5030 Software (including SEL-411L Advanced Line Differential Protection, Automation, and Control System drivers), the SEL-C662 USB Serial Cables driver, and SEL-5601-2 SYNCHROWAVE® Event Software installed prior to the seminar.
